Dear Ms Swift
The Committee currently is conducting an inquiry into allegations of
documents being fraudulently and inaccurately written and issued in a
member's (Hon Gary Nairn MP) name. The inquiry was referred to the
Committee by the House of Representatives on 10 August 2005.
The Committee has taken evidence
on the inquiry, and aspects of the evidence relate to you.
Under procedures adopted by the
Committee (extracted here):
-
A person shall, as soon as
practicable, be informed, in writing, of the nature of any
allegations, known to the Committee and relevant to the committee's
inquiry, against the person, or evidence which reflects adversely on
the person, and of the particulars of any evidence which has been
given in respect of the person.
-
The committee shall extend
to that person all reasonable opportunity to respond to such
allegations and evidence by
(a) making written submissions to the committee;
(b) giving evidence before the committee; and
(c) having other relevant evidence placed before the committee.
I
attach a summary of the evidence taken in relation to you. I am writing
to ask you to respond to the allegations and evidence by: (a) making
written submissions to the committee; (b) giving evidence before the
committee; and/or (c) having other relevant evidence placed before the
committee.
It would be appreciated if a
response could be received by 31 January 2007.
If you have any queries about
this matter, you can contact the Committee Secretary, Mr David Elder on
02 6277 4444.
Yours sincerely
