SERCA and JATAN are asking Nippon Paper to stop buying native forest woodchips from the Eden chipmill
Since Nippon Paper has abandonned its white paper interest in Opal Paper in Victoria we are asking it to stop buying native forest woodchips from Eden chipmill, the mill that it once owned. English version    Japanese version


New report on $$ benefits of ending native forest logging in NSW report by Blueprint Institute, a conservative think tank with strong Liberal Party connections examines the benefits of ending native forest logging in NSW. While it uses north coast forests as a case study, with carbon emissions of 0.45M tonnes per year, it identifies emission for the South Coast of 0.95M tonnes, more than twice as much, for a significantly smaller area.  It concludes that there would be a net benefit of $260.1 million in ceasing logging immediately, NCC response    Download report

CHIPMILL DA to BVSC for EXPANDED MILL

In March 2020, ANWE lodged a Development Application for an expanded mill to process briquettes, pallets, following the allocation of the Eden Sawlog Wood Supply Agreement to it. BVSC received 126 submissions from the public, all but one opposing the DA. Public submissions   ANWE was asked to provide additional information on its DA

Just 2 weeks after the Forestry Corporation CEO told State Parliament in 2019 that the "stumpage price" of woodchip (pulp) logs from the Southern Region is a record low of $3.72 a tonne, Eden chipmill owner, Allied Natural Wood Exports announced a near record profit of $10.6 million.   clickk

CHIPMILL STORM DAMAGE
On the night of 5 June 2016, World Environment Day, the chipmill jetty was struck by a massive wave which destroyed much of it. The images to right tell some of the story. CHIPMILL GETS A NEW OWNER
On 23 December 2015 Allied Natural Wood Exports (ANWE) became the owner of the Eden chipmill.
While the new owners are 'tsalking the talk;, they are also committed to maintaining Wood Supply Agreements and woodchip export contracts to Nippon Paper until at least the end of 2018.

An expert national review of Regional Forest Agreements (RFAs) has given a decisive thumbs down to the legal framework for native forest logging and woodchipping on the NSW far south coast.
