NSW Forestry Corporation Hardwood Division

Native forest logging is undertaken by the Hardwood Division. For many years it has been marginal or lost money for NSW taxpayers.

Exports of woodchips in green Tonnes

In its heyday following the Eden Regional Forest Agreement, SEFE typically exported over 1 million green tonnes of woodchips from Eden. Most went to the (then) parent company in Japan. Since 2018, China has been the biggest importer of Eden woodchips.
Annual export figures since 1997
From Victoria, a long term contract with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to supply 200,000 tonnes a year ended in 2014. Pulp log supply from Victoria has resumed, but is again uncertain following the commitment of the Victorian Government to phase out native forest logging.
Since ANWE acquired SEFE in December 2015, only partial Annual Financial Statements to ASIC have been lodged.

Total exports from Eden since the establishment of the chipmill are more than 42 million green tonnes.

On a typical day - during the 2000s, 160 trucks enter the chipmilll with loads of either woodchips or logs. Now, it is a lot fewer. For truck count details click
This is based on a regular truck monitoring surveys undertaken by Chipstop.  This equates to an en estimated 14.5 million truck kilometres every year.

Political donations: The logging industry seldom makes donations to any political party; indeed, taxpayers are digging deep to subsidise it. However, the Australian Forest Products Association (FPA) has made small donations from time to time.
Significantly, the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Engineering Union (CFMEU), the loggers' union is among the biggest donors to the Labor Party.

Area logged. In 2008, a total of more than 14,500 hectares was logged in the south coast and Eden regions combined (source: ForestsNSW). Every logtruck represents half a hectare of forest logged (on the basis of figures in the Eden EIS (Vol C, Appendix 4-9), 59 826 ha =2726 984 tonnes.  On the same basis, each fully laden woodchip carrier, such as the Daishowa Maru, for example represents 1176.5 hectares of logged forest.
Since that time, the area logged to produce the same amount of woodchips has almost doubled, according to an analysis of Forestry Corporation Harvest Plans.
